Dottie Kaufmann - Associate Director

Dottie has been singing since she was five years old.  She joined Sweet Adelines in 1965 soon after she was married.  Her new husband realized that she missed singing and had a friend whose wife belonged to some “singing thing”.  That turned out to be Sweet Adelines and Dottie was hooked immediately, and she sang with the Illinois Valley Chapter until she moved to Woodstock, Illinois in 1969.

As there wasn’t a chorus in the area at this time, Dottie contacted International Headquarters and was put in touch with Pat Gattone and together they started the McHenry Chapter.  She continued with the organization as that chorus merged with the Lake County Chapter and later became Chain O’ Lakes Chorus.  She was a member of the management team when Spirit of the Lakes Chorus was formed.

Dottie has served as President, Costume Chair, and is currently Associate Director and tenor section leader of Spirit of the Lakes Chorus.  She is now working toward director’s certification.  She has sung in several quartets and currently sings tenor with Crystal Connection.  She treasures the friendships she’s made through her years in Sweet Adelines.

Dottie has been singing nearly 41 years and loving every minute of it.  She and her husband, Carl, have four children, 13 grandchildren, and just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.  She also works as an associate at Westwood School in Woodstock and helps direct a church choir in McHenry, Illinois.  In her “spare” time she sews and crochets.
